Jessica Serisky, alias Juushika, was born August 18th, 1985. She is currently studying English at Whitman College; she is also a writer, photographer, and web designer.

Jessica writes poetry and short fiction, and is currently in the process of completing two novels. She is involved in general and portrait photography, and has been taking self-portraits for about a year. She owns an Olympus OM-1 and a Canon Powershot G3 and is proficient in traditional and digital darkroom developing techniques. Jessica has revised her own site five times, written various web pages for family and friends, and done one site on contract. At this point, she is proficient in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, and has an adequate grasp on PHP.

Her interest in the arts started early. She learned to read at three, began writing not long after, and soon became a self-professed English geek. In her freshman year of high school she took a photography course which led to two more classes, the acquisition of two cameras, and a heavy involvement in photography. Experimenting with self-portraiture on a whim, she discovered that taking pictures of herself made her a better photographer and more confidant person; she has since continued with the art form. Jessica designed her first website to showcase her own art and found web design to be a combination of logic and creativity that suited her well; four years, five homepage revisions (the last two in cooperation with Devon Smith), one paid commission, and various side projects later, she is more interested and more capable than ever.

Now, inspired by the creations and greatness of authors Toni Morrison, Ray Bradbury, Philip K. Dick, Ayn Rand, and William Shakespeare, artists Salvador Dali and Dale Chihuly, musicians Edvard Grieg and Maynard James Keenan, and her artistically-inclined mother, she is working to become more accomplished, productive, and artistic. She is in the process of completing her novels, moving towards working with models more often and selling prints of her photographs, and creating a website design business.

Be it writing, photography, or even web design, art is an attempt to capture and record what the artist sees and views as worthy of notice and appreciation. Art is the artist’s legacy: a record of goals, growth, and changing vision. As an artist, Jessica is capturing her ideas in reality, presenting them to others, and creating a legacy. Her interest in art is continually growing the changing. Like the many manuscripts that she is still working on, her life is an unfinished story.
